What’s it all about and why do it?
Pilates includes the modern principles of exercise science and spinal health, making it one of the safest and effective methods available. It is a powerful form of exercise, in that it trains the client to perform good form that can be applied in all spheres of physical activity.
It is a universal scientific method which has been developed and endorsed by today’s world renowned training and certification organisations.
Pilates’ primary focus is on the deeper underlying muscle groups, commonly known as ‘the core’, which is essential in the control of joint movement and sustaining joint stability. Pilates rebalances the muscles around the joints for both strength and flexibility, creating longer, leaner muscles. The numerous exercises executed in a single session will not only develop muscle tone and flexibility, but will also create a more balanced body that looks leaner and youthful.
Overall, Pilates, applied as a stand-alone form of exercise, or applied to any other form of activity, improves posture by restoring the natural curves of the spine, develops kinaesthetic awareness of the body, and enhances performance for other physical activities, functional fitness, and weight control.
What Pam really enjoys about her Pilates programmes is that Pilates is developmental; it can be broken down to its most simple form or built up to the most advanced level. This is especially important when dealing with mixed levels of ability.
Exercising consistently two to four times per week under professional guidance in a group or one-on-one situation, should start producing encouraging results within 8 to 12 weeks. The body form will have a more toned, leaner look and the person will be feeling better with enhanced body awareness. Becoming more mindful about one’s body is an encouraging and essential step towards achieving one’s health and fitness objectives.
